Super Fighter is a fast paced versus fighting game for the PC. Its unique design
inspired several other fighting games which would later also appear for the PC,
as well as for videogame consoles such as the PC Engine and the Super A'can.
Developed by C&E, Inc. in Taiwan, Super Fighter was originally a commercial
game sold in Asia and exported to Europe under the name Fatal Encounter. However,
with full cooperation and support from C&E, the game was officially
reclassified as freeware by Super Fighter Team and as a result, is now available
for free download.

How to play [back to top] |
The SETUP.EXE program is used to configure your computer's sound and music options. Use
it to modify your settings, then exit the program. Your choices will automatically be saved
to a file named FIGHT.CFG.
Either the SF.EXE or the SF.COM program is used to begin play. As Super Fighter was designed
to be played on a PC with a 386 processor, modern machines will cause
accelerated play unless the speed fix is loaded before starting a game. To
load the speed fix, always launch the SF.COM file rather than the SF.EXE file.
The following methods of control are supported:
JOYSTICK
One or two joysticks may be used. The game will automatically configure your joystick(s)
for gameplay via the game's options menu.
KEYBOARD
Two different keyboard layouts are supported:
Layout 1 (left side of the keyboard)
Q = Jump up/left
W = Jump up
E = Jump up/right
A = Move left
D = Move right
Z = Crouch defensively
X = Crouch
C = Crouch defensively
Tab = Punch
Left Shift = Kick
|
Layout 2 (numeric keypad)
7 = Jump up/left
8 = Jump up
9 = Jump up/right
4 = Move left
6 = Move right
1 = Crouch defensively
2 = Crouch
3 = Crouch defensively
Enter = Punch
Right Shift = Kick
|
By default, player one uses layout 1 and player 2 uses layout 2. This however may be
changed in the game's options menu.
MOUSE
A mouse is not supported for gameplay, as it would not be an efficient way to play a
fighting game. However if you have a mouse driver installed, you may navigate the game
menus using the mouse.

Characters [back to top] |
|
The game features eleven different characters. Selecting a character's picture or name from the list below will bring up an indepth
information page which features character stats, background story and special attacks
listing.
In one player story mode, only the first eight characters are selectable by the player.
The remaining three (Widow, Joker and Indian Joe) are the boss characters, which only the
computer may select.
In two player battle mode, the boss characters may be selected by use of a special code:
Type the words SUPER FIGHT (with CAPS LOCK on and including the space between the two words)
at the character selection screen. A sound effect will confirm correct code entry. Then, it
is simply a matter of pressing the 1, 2 or 3 keys to choose either Widow, Joker or Indian Joe.

This version of Super Fighter is freeware, meaning anyone can download and
enjoy it completely free of charge.
Notes:
This version of Super Fighter is in the Chinese language. However, using the
information found in this page's how to play section, all gamers should have no problems
playing the game, even without any knowledge of Chinese.
This game is programmed to operate in realtime DOS. Therefore, the game may not perform
as intended under the limited DOS support that Windows offers. Windows users are instructed
to make use of the DOSBox program in order to remedy the problem. Linux users are also
encouraged to try this option for the best possible experience.
Realtime DOS mode users may need to free up additional memory in order to play the game.
This can be accomplished by removing unnecessary memory resident programs from the boot files
(AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS), creating a special 'boot disk' which uses only a bare bones
system configuration or by employing a special memory manager such as QEMM or MEMMAKER.
