The game opens to find the Shatt Kingdom's selfish, self-centered snob of a prince trying his best to pass slough off the daily tutoring. Unfortunately this all too familiar a scene for the prince's teacher, the Cat Minister. Rather than focusing on his studies, the careless prince chooses to waste time daydreaming. He moans and complains about the tedious routines and courtesies he is expected to memorize and uphold within the palace, stating that the 'commoners' outside the castle walls don't bother with such silly things.

Stepping outside to cool off, the prince attempts to leave the palace. As the guards are under strict order not to let him leave without direct permission from the king, he is momentarily thwarted. Seconds later however he is able to distract the guards, getting them to leave their post just long enough for him to sneak out the front gate.

Exploring the city for the first time, the prince stumbles upon a beggar who very closely resembles him. If he swaps clothes with this innocent beggar, the guards won't come looking for him, meaning he can enjoy a day in the city without fear! As the beggar is both loyal to and fearful of his prince, he will do anything to appease him, even if the order sounds somewhat strange.

Watching over the prince from the top of the castle, the Cat Minister sees and hears everything that transpires between his prince and the lowly beggar. It all comes as a pleasant surprise to him, since he has been secretly plotting against the King for some time, and this false prince will only help him to gain power even quicker than before. As the King of Shatt Kingdom was preoccupied with his duties and his son, the prince, never paid any attention to anything but himself and his own selfish desires, the evil Cat Minister's plans have gone completely unnoticed. As the Cat Minister laughs to himself about this surprising turn of events, the prince unknowingly goes about his fun, enjoyable turn as a pauper.

Where could the prince of Shatt possibly be while his father's authority is being overturned? What is he doing while the devious Cat Minister's plans are unfolding? He's... inside of a bakery buying up large quantities of snacks with his riches. With a prince like this, Shatt Kingdom will surely be ruined!

When the prince's belly is filled and he has grown weary of the game room, he decides to call it a day and return to the palace. There's only one problem: the guards will not let him back inside! Though he does his best to explain the situation, the guards only laugh at him and tell him to run along. Even his threats to force himself past the guards don't rattle them in the least, leaving him alone and penniless in the city. Determined to return to the palace but without a clue how, he will embark on a grand adventure which will take him to many exciting places and past a hoard of evil enemies.

This is where YOU come in! Order Beggar Prince, and help the prince of Shatt go from undisciplined youth to a brave, courageous and wise leader of his people! Face the dangers that wait beyond the gates of the capital! Build relationships with important members of society! Collect helpful items that will enable you to ultimately challenge the might of the Cat Minister! It's an exciting adventure just waiting to unfold.
